Located on the Texas A&M RELLIS Campus, the Energy Proving Ground accelerates nuclear power innovation by advancing small modular reactor (SMR) technologies. Home to a fully operational nuclear reactor at the Texas A&M Nuclear Engineering & Science Center, this initiative is part of the Texas A&M System’s broader commitment to nuclear research, education, and energy production. System officials believe that the Energy Proving Ground will position Texas A&M as a leader in sustainable, advanced energy solutions to meet growing global demands. With a streamlined regulatory process already underway through an Early Site Permit application with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the site is designed to support multiple SMRs with a combined electrical output of over one gigawatt—providing the missing element needed to bring more nuclear power to the state’s electric grid.
